GOLDACH, SWITZERLAND – New construction in Goldach: L. Kellenberger & Co. AG is merging sites in Eastern Switzerland
Swiss grinding machine manufacturer KELLENBERGER (Hardinge) is going to merge its three sites in St. Gallen, Wittenbach, and Romanshorn, Eastern Switzerland, into a single new production site. The new headquarters are going to be built in Goldach in the canton of St. Gallen, and will provide around 25,000 m2 for sales, R&D, production, assembly, warehousing, and administration. In addition, spindle construction, the grinding shop and the measuring area, as well as a large showroom and training workshop, will be given a central place in the production hall, which has approximately 18,000 m2.
Founded in 1917, L. Kellenberger & Co. AG now has around 400 employees and specializes in the development and production of CNC precision grinding machines. For over 25 years, KELLENBERGER has been part of the American HARDINGE group, which also includes other popular brands such as VOUMARD, HAUSER, and TSCHUDIN, in addition to KELLENBERGER, and combines the turning, milling, grinding, and clamping technologies.
The new site is going to unite production and assembly of all grinding machine brands in a single location, creating further synergies as a result. Short distances will lead to greater innovative strength in design and sales. The new building offers streamlined production processes and an optimized assembly process to greatly improve both capacity and efficiency. Vibration-isolated foundations reduce the noise load. A central cooling and compressed-air system built to the latest environmental specifications will reduce operating costs by using ground water.
Real estate developer Mettler2Invest from St. Gallen was involved in the complex search for a new site from the very beginning. In addition to the successful land acquisition, Mettler2Invest is responsible for the development and implementation of the new building. The plans for the new building were drawn up by the Swiss architectural firm Carlos Martinez Architekten, based in Berneck and Rorschach. Their clear, innovative work combines good design with pioneering technologies, making them successful in Switzerland and around the world.
The construction of the new factory is a commitment to the location of Eastern Switzerland. Relocating KELLENBERGER to the Tannäcker industrial park in Goldach offers great added value to the Goldach community at Lake Constance, and is an upgrade for the industrial area, which has been connected to public transport with a new road and bus line during construction.
The laying of the foundation stone for the building took place on August 10 in the presence of KELLENBERGER management and CEO Viktor Gaspar, the president of the Goldach municipality, Dominik Gemperli, and the state councilor of the canton of St. Gallen, Beat Tinner.
